Healthy Eating Information for Parents
Nut and Seed-Free School Policy
We are committed to ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all our students. To protect children with severe allergies, our school is a nut and seed-free zone. This means that nuts, seeds, and any food items containing these ingredients are strictly prohibited. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain this policy and keep all our students safe.
Importance of a Balanced Lunch
A balanced lunch is crucial for your child’s growth, development, and ability to concentrate and perform well in school. A well-rounded meal should include:
- Fruits and Vegetables: Fresh, frozen, or canned options without added sugars or salt.
- Whole Grains: Such as whole wheat bread, brown rice, and whole grain pasta.
- Protein: Lean meats, dairy products, beans, and legumes. Remember, no nuts or seeds.
- Dairy: Low-fat or fat-free options like milk, cheese, and yogurt.
- Healthy Fats: From sources such as olive oil or avocados.
Lunch Options
Parents have two options for providing lunch for their children:
1. Packed Lunches: If you choose to send a packed lunch, please ensure it adheres to our nut and seed-free policy and contains a balance of the food groups mentioned above. Here are some ideas: A chicken and cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread, carrot sticks, a piece of fruit, and a yogurt. o A quinoa salad with vegetables, grilled chicken, an apple, and a small container of yogurt for dipping veggie sticks.
2. Hot Lunches from Our School Supplier: Our school supplier offers a variety of nutritious hot lunches that meet the dietary guidelines and cater to different tastes and preferences. These meals are prepared to provide a balanced diet and are an excellent option for busy parents.
By providing a nutritious and balanced lunch, you are helping your child stay energized and focused throughout the school day.
